IAR NewsMarch 2008 IAR Goa centre thanks UK couple for their generous support
IAR’s founder and chairman in Goa John Hicks has paid a special tribute of thanks to supporters Ken and Ann Stevens from the UK. The couple from Plymouth visit the Goa rescue centre each year to help out and also raise significant sums of money for it when they’re in the UK. John commented: "Many people from all walks of life visit us throughout the year - some have a guided tour of the centre and others dedicate their time to helping us care for the one hundred plus animals that we have in our care at any one time. One of our most active and generous supporters is Ken Stevens from Devon. Ken, who works as a one-on-one dog trainer in his home town of Wembury, Plymouth and his wife Ann have been travelling to Goa for six years and, since their first visit to the centre in Assagao, they have actively helped raise awareness about the stray dog issue in Goa. When on holiday Ken comes to the centre nearly every day to help out in any way he can. He walks the dogs, shows visitors around and steps in wherever an extra pair of hands is needed. Back in the UK he and Ann, who are both members of a dog agility club, spend much of their time in the summer raising funds for IAR Goa at local agility shows. Donations are raised through raffles, table top sales and sponsored walks with friends and clients and their dogs. In the past three years Ken and Ann have raised approximately £6500 for International Animal Rescue in Goa. This equates to around 500.000 Indian Rupees and goes a long way towards relieving the suffering among the animals. The team in Goa would like to send grateful thanks to Ken and Ann and all the wonderful people who have made donations and shown their support. However big or small the gift, it all helps us to carry on our vital work relieving the suffering of animals in Goa."
