International Animal Rescue
Dedicated to the rescue and rehabilitation of suffering animals

IAR founder John Hicks and friend

"Each and every one of us has the ability to look at an animal and see if that animal is in pain. And if an animal is in pain, surely if we are human – if we are caring, thinking people – surely it is our responsibility to try to do whatever we can to stop that suffering."

John Hicks, IAR Founder

Custard, one of our resident dogs in Goa

Our resident dogs
There are a number of reasons why some dogs remain at our centre in Goa. If it is within our capacity, we keep them with us and they become part of the family. > Meet the gang!

IAR Goa needs list
A large number of people contact us before they come to our centre in Goa asking if there is anything they can bring with them. As a result, we’ve now put together a needs list, which itemises some of the things we require on a regular basis in order to keep things running smoothly. We’re grateful to any volunteers / supporters who can bring these items with them as our supplies get depleted very quickly! > Needs list

Krishna, Kennel Manager, with friend’Animal Tracks’ is the name of our rescue facility in Goa.

It is located in the North of Goa near the town of Mapusa. We employ six vets under the leadership of our Veterinary Director Astrid Almeida. We started work in Goa in 1998 in a small bungalow, operating on the kitchen table. We had volunteer vets from the UK, Holland, Spain and Germany. Animal Tracks is now a fully functional veterinary clinic with a properly built kennel block housing 90 dogs and a purpose built cattery for 50 cats. The clinic has expanded to deal with wildlife and the numerous pigs, goats, cows and water buffalo that suffer from all sorts of ailments as well as coming into contact with cars on the busy roads.

Visitors are always welcome to the clinic to see the animals and the dogs always need walks! > Download our Goa leaflet (400kb PDF)
