Family found guilty of animal cruelty

A father and son who left their dog in such a terrible state that the animal had to be put down have both been charged with animal cruelty.
Ronald Cook and his 33-year-old son Michael, both of Layton in Lancashire, allowed their dog Rocky to become virtually blind, covered in mange and have nails so long he could not walk properly.
After being seen to by vet Andrew Mellor it was decided that the kindest solution for Rocky would be euthanasia. Mr Mellor concluded that the black and tan crossbreed, which had lost 60 per cent of its hair, had suffered for several months.
The pair were given a lifelong ban preventing them from keeping animals again by Blackpool magistrates, who also ordered them to each pay £200 court costs, the Blackpool Gazette reports.
Michael Cook was sentenced to 60 hours unpaid community service, while his father has been placed under a curfew for the next two months.
