Man fined for illegally importing dead snakes into the US

Officials in the US have revealed that a man caught trying to smuggle a large number of dead birds and snakes into the country has been given a hefty fine.
Local reports suggest that the man was stopped last month at Atlanta International Airport after flying into the country from South Korea.
When his luggage was searched, over 30 dead snakes, birds and other animal remains were discovered.
Darwin Huggins, a US Fish and Wildlife agent, explained: "They're typically used in traditional Chinese or Asian medicine.
"Some of the snakes had scorpions in their mouths. And they were preserved in wine. It's a medicinal type wine that certain cultures drink."
As a result, the man was found guilty of failing to declare the unusual cargo and of violating rules designed to protect endangered species. He was fined a total of $800 (£400).
